OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY
Colbrow Healthcare is committed to provide, so far as reasonably practicable, a safe and healthy working environment for operational employees and on-hired employees, contractors, clients and visitors. In addition, the company endeavours to work closely with the host employers in implementing safe workplace practices and to ensure that placements are facilitated with healthcare facilities and institutions that understand, implement and undertake their OH&S responsibilities in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act 2004 (OHS Act).
The company accepts its obligations imposed by government legislation on OHS and the supporting Regulations and Codes of Practice, as they pertain to our activities and regard these as being the minimum acceptable standard.
Objectives
- To control risks to occupational health and safety by engaging all stakeholders in promoting and maintaining a culture of safety
- To provide and maintain at all times safe systems of work in all workplaces
- To ensure compliance of health and safety policies with legislative requirements
- To observe industry good practice standards with regard to OHS
- To ensure the induction of all employees into the OHS program
- To increase employee awareness through participation and ownership of the OHS program
- To achieve minimal occupational health & safety related accidents per annum
- To have all workplace related injuries/incidents reported within 48 hours to management
- To continually review and improve the safety performance
Responsibilities
The company is responsible for, as far as practicable:
- Adopting a systematic risk management approach to manage OHS in the workplace
- Ensuring systems are in place to allow for identification and resolution of OHS issues
- Promoting and maintaining a program of remote site hazard assessments
- Establishing an OHS safety committee for Colbrow Healthcare, with representation from relevant work areas
- Providing necessary resources to assist management, staff and workers to meet OHS obligations
- Maintaining effective communication and consultation (including dispute resolution) with key stakeholders on safety matters
- Minimising the impact of work related incidents on employees and their families
- Ensuring that employees suffering from a workplace related injury or illness receive all due entitlements, as identified in the appropriate legislation, and assistance in returning to health and resuming their normal duties, where safely possible, bearing in mind the prevailing medical opinion.
The operational employees and on-hired workers are responsible for:
- complying with the Colbrow Healthcare OHS Management System
- following all OHS policies and procedures
- actively participating and cooperating in Colbrow Healthcare’s OHS process
- ensuring their own and others safety is not affected by their actions
The company is committed to effective consultation and engagement with employees on OHS matters. Colbrow Healthcare expects that all employees and staff will be aware of and meet their obligations towards their work, their patients and their fellow staff/associates, as required by the OHS Act and those pertaining to other relevant states and other related legislation, Regulations and Codes of Practice.
Through the application of sound risk management principles and the identification and elimination of causes of injury, Colbrow Healthcare aims to achieve a sustainable and rewarding culture of safety for all concerned.
